Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club Honors
Doug Dittrick and the Memory of Barbara Dittrick
as 2008 Humanitarians of the Year
More than 330 people attended the Celebratory Dinner April 10th to honor fellow Rotarian
Doug Dittrick and Barbara Dittrick (in memorium) as the Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club’s 2008
Humanitarians of the Year.
Since moving to Ridgewood over 30 years ago, Doug and Barbara became powerful
forces for good in the community, helping those most in need. They applied their
considerable energy, guidance and can-do spirits to further organizations involved
in health, education and welfare in Ridgewood, nationally and internationally.
In presenting the 2008 Humanitarian of the Year Awards, Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club
President Betty Wiest commented that Doug and Barbara’s significant work in the
community truly exemplified Rotary International’s motto, “Service above Self.”
Attendees also heard a very moving presentation about one of the Dittricks’
favorite charities, Project Hope, Haiti’s largest orphanage, from Father Marc
Boivert, its founder and director.
Thanks to the generosity of those honoring Doug and Barbara,
over $22,000 was raised for Project Hope and the Ridgewood Rotary
Foundation, which supports local many local charitable organizations.
This sum included $10,000 to supply pigs, goats and cows for Project
Hope’s farm.
Doug and Barbara Dittrick’s work in the community has raised the bar
for caring, commitment and generosity. Very importantly, their leadership
and example have inspired family, friends, business associates and neighbors
to give back to their communities, and help those in need well beyond our
local borders.
