Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club Shares Food and Warmth
In this challenging economy, the Ridgewood A.M. Rotary Club has redoubled our commitment to addressing hunger and homelessness in our community. We’ve launched a “Perpetual Food Drive” where members bring donations of food and other essential items to weekly meetings for the food pantry operated by the Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity.
We partner with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts during the Scouting for Food campaign each April to collect hundreds of bags of food and toiletries from patrons at local supermarkets.
We support the Interreligious Fellowship sheltering program in Bergen County and have bought, prepared and served a holiday meal at Peter’s Place in Hackensack. Last fall, we held a coat drive, organized by past Club president Betty Wiest, to provide a warm layer for needy school children in Paterson and Jersey City. More than 20 bags of winter coats were collected.
“There are many people in our midst who must make the hard choice between paying their rent or mortgage and buying food for their families,” says Bob Wolf, head of our club’s community service efforts. “The activities we support make a significant difference in the communities we serve.”
