The Ridgewood AM Rotary is seeking three or four host families in Ridgewood to house an inbound student, who will live in Ridgewood for the school year and attend RHS as part of the international Rotary Youth Exchange program. The Ridgewood club is also sponsoring an RHS student, who will spend their academic year at a foreign high school and live with local host families there. In a similar way, they will be supported by the local Rotary club in their host city in one of the countries they choose or is available.
The exchange student, who will arrive in Ridgewood in late August, speaks English. They are generally top students in their own schools and are either a junior or senior. Each student is carefully evaluated, going through a rigorous evaluation process within their host club and later reviewed for acceptance here in the US.
The family hosting period is normally three to four months long divided into fall, winter or spring periods. Each student has health insurance and the Rotary provides a monthly allowance. The ideal host family would have a student at RHS, but we have found great success in 'empty nest' settings or families with young children seeking to expand their cultural horizons. In many cases, relationships forged with these students lasts for a lifetime. For more information, contact us.
